Avalon is cooler by a mile and shadier than most of the island chain, and it has a great deal of cedar. That combination grows more on a house than the brochure suggests.
Cedar goes black and streaky where damp and shade get to it, and shaded elevations on this island get plenty of both. We soft wash the growth out, then follow with a wood brightener that lifts the color back and leaves the shakes looking new rather than only clean.
Pressure is never part of it. On cedar it raises the grain, and raised cedar holds more dirt afterwards than it did to begin with, so a forceful job makes next year worse.
The dune-side houses take weather from the front and hold shade at the back, so the two elevations rarely need the same approach. Bigger footprints also mean the size discount in the estimator usually applies, which is worth checking before you book.
